Discovering Curiosity with OuiSi: Finding the Familiar in the Unfamiliar

At our very first Cool, Comms, Collected (3Cs) workshop—focused on curiosity—we kicked things off with a game that never fails to surprise people: OuiSi (pronounced “we see”). It’s a deck of beautiful photo cards that challenge players to find visual connections—maybe it’s a color, a shape, or even a feeling that links one card to another. The result? Lots of “aha!” moments and a room full of people saying, “I never would’ve noticed that before!”

We use OuiSi because we think it’s the perfect way to practice curiosity. Not the kind that’s just about asking questions, but the kind that helps us look deeper, find meaning in everyday things, and appreciate new perspectives. In our workshops, we define curiosity as finding the familiar in the unfamiliar—and that’s exactly what OuiSi encourages.

During one session, a teen, a retiree, and a parent sat at the same table, connecting photos of a cactus and a foot. “Five parts sticking up—it’s like toes!” someone laughed. That simple connection turned into a thoughtful conversation about how differently we all see the world—and how valuable that difference really is.

One participant summed it up perfectly:

This game made me realize that curiosity isn’t about having the right answer—it’s about seeing with fresh eyes and being okay with not knowing

By the end, the whole group felt more open, more relaxed, and more ready to explore the deeper side of communication. OuiSi reminded us that curiosity is something we can play with—and that sometimes the best learning happens when we stop trying to be right and just start being curious.
